First, work out which kind of couple they are
You do not need to know much about coffee to pick well here. You need to know how the two of them drink it, and there are really only three patterns.
They drink the same thing
The easy case. Buy something that makes enough for two in one go. The Chemex and the French press both brew several cups at once, so the morning coffee becomes one job rather than two.
